The Author is Retired Military, Marine Instructor, Director of Human Resources, Addictions Counselor and Treatment program advisor. and a Vietnam USMC Combat Veteran.I originally wrote this book in the mid 1980's, unfortunately it is more applicable now. The decision to re-write or update 'Security for Today's Women' was a simple one. I began thinking about revising the text and publishing to Amazon, following a conversation with my wife. Where she had expressed her concern about the dangers faced by today's college coeds, either sex. Those living in a college dorm or apartment. And how closely it compared to her own terrifying rape experience in a dark parking garage. Her voiced concerns regarding the unknown dangers faced by today's women everywhere, inspired a complete rewrite of the original book, new cover and all. When the initial book was completed in the 80's, She eagerly read it and basically stated; If I had known this stuff before, it would have never happened. Every woman should know how to defend herself. That's the story behind this little book for today's busy Women. It is our sincere hope you do not have such a terrifying experience thrust upon you. In the words of my wife and editor: "Knowing how to defend myself, changes everything". This small book is a no nonsense, thirty+ pages of Self Help, 'Awareness with Attitude' book for Today's Women, everywhere.A Marines wife knows, "Attitude is Everything". Thank you and stay safe.Thomas & Lisa

This book provides unique insights into how the idea of quota laws to get women on to corporate boards gained international momentum from its origins in Norway. Invaluable insights are gained through the stories of actors involved in shaping the discourse and practice on women of boards. In exploring political contexts, the role of the advocacy movement, experiences of women directors themselves and latest research findings, the contributors provide a comprehensive overview of the rationales, processes and outcomes of formal approaches to gender diversity on boards. Drawing on insights from political, business and academic actors, the book discusses how and why the Norwegian law on gender equality on corporate boards is turning into a blueprint for action internationally. Getting Women on to Corporate Boards will prove an invaluable resource for policy-makers, principle-setters, practitioners and students interested in the international lessons from Norway, as well as for current and potential women directors.

Women and Sustainability in Business: A Global Perspective edited by Kiymet Caliyurt brings together original research from a dozen countries, concerning the issues and challenges facing women in sustainable business. This is a recurrent topic among researchers, regulators, companies and rating agencies. Governments pay special attention to how women impact the economy when shaping their strategies on economic sustainability. Women's contribution to business is fundamental to creating a sustainable economy, such that businesses try to strengthen 'women's presence' within their organisations, especially on their boards. Today, sustainable companies cannot survive without strategies involving women. Stakeholders, regulators, NGOs and rating agencies track both women-focused strategies and the corporate sustainability reports of companies. Well-designed strategies for women workers help companies to develop their financial and social sustainability initiatives progressively. This book analyses the practice of women in sustainable business, in terms of company performance, social responsibility, board management, entrepreneurship, employment, education, management, social sustainability, environmental politics and technology, from a wide range of diverse, regional perspectives and highlights the differences between the underdeveloped, developing and developed world.
