Chronicling the lives and career choices of a dynamic group of women, this book provides a comprehensive and unique glimpse into the intricate balance of work and family. Women's Employment and Homemaking Careers is based on three surveys, the first conducted while the women were attending university and the second and third conducted one and two decades later. The surveys provide quantitative data that supplements the qualitative material gained from final interviews conducted at the end of the 25-year longitudinal study. The book is based on two comparisons - first, examining how women change in the quarter century following university and the second comparing the lifestyle choices of career women, homemakers, part-time employees and entrepreneurs - and uses those comparisons to build in-depth analyses of the pivotal importance of women's employment and family decisions. Cherlyn Granrose interprets her findings using lifespan development, decision-making and gender role theories and outlines lessons for women, their counselors and employers as well as other scholars. Women learn there are many different means by which to create satisfying family and working lives; employers learn the importance of positive supervision and flexible family support policies; and scholars learn the necessity of using multiple methods and perspectives to understand the complexity of modern women's lives. Scholars and students of sociology, psychology, business and women's studies will find this volume as informative as they will find it interesting.

Women and Sustainability in Business: A Global Perspective edited by Kiymet Caliyurt brings together original research from a dozen countries, concerning the issues and challenges facing women in sustainable business. This is a recurrent topic among researchers, regulators, companies and rating agencies. Governments pay special attention to how women impact the economy when shaping their strategies on economic sustainability. Women's contribution to business is fundamental to creating a sustainable economy, such that businesses try to strengthen 'women's presence' within their organisations, especially on their boards. Today, sustainable companies cannot survive without strategies involving women. Stakeholders, regulators, NGOs and rating agencies track both women-focused strategies and the corporate sustainability reports of companies. Well-designed strategies for women workers help companies to develop their financial and social sustainability initiatives progressively. This book analyses the practice of women in sustainable business, in terms of company performance, social responsibility, board management, entrepreneurship, employment, education, management, social sustainability, environmental politics and technology, from a wide range of diverse, regional perspectives and highlights the differences between the underdeveloped, developing and developed world.

Corrupt Business Practices In Newspaper Circulation

This book is also a section found in the more comprehensive resource titled: "Advice and Cautions for Independent Publishing Authors." While this book is not actually on the subject of indie authoring or publishing, it does relate to it indirectly because some independent authors do indeed write as freelancers for in-print newspapers. I also believe the experiences I relate regarding dishonestly within a newspaper I worked as a distribution agent for, further helps to educate readers, in regard to the types of scams that are perpetrated by those who are dishonest within the publishing world in general. There are many honest and highly ethical people in businesses, and public offices, including those in the newspaper industry but honesty can only maintain an upper-hand when accountability for potential dishonestly remains in place and is practiced when necessary. I also feel that the type practices I describe in the chapters of this book, that I witnessed first-hand as a contract newspaper distributor, including illegitimate methods for increasing circulation by some newspaper companies, is far more common than the general public may realize. This also means that the cost of advertising being purchased from these newspapers, by businesses and consumers is sometimes illegitimately inflated by dishonest companies, based on false circulation numbers. Could it be that this is possibly one of the reasons for the continuing downfall of printed newspapers, with honest ones suffering, along with the dishonest ones? Written by a veteran "newsboy" with 16 years experience in newspaper sales. TABLE OF CONTENTS: CHAPTER ONE: Why I became a Newsboy CHAPTER TWO: Collection Time Shenanigans CHAPTER THREE: Tucked Away for a Rainy Day CHAPTER FOUR: How to Increase Newspaper Circulation without even Trying CHAPTER FIVE: Confessions of a Corrupt District Manager CHAPTER SIX: Ghost Routes Galore CONCLUSION
